We recently upgraded fro X9 to 2017 and are quite impressed with the improvements. One area we are struggling with is some apparent changes to the way the NetHasp seems to work.  With X9 if I launched Mastercam from my desktop, it would simply log off anyone else using it, giving them one chance to save the work before it closed.

 

Now, if one instance of Mastercam is open elsewhere, I get a "License not found" error when I attempt to launch. This means I need to walk out to the shop floor to shut down the other instance before I can launch, a huge PITA!

 

Speaking with tech support, they let slip that previous versions of Mastercam would allow multiple seats open at the same time, but that had be fixed with 2017, which I suspect is causing this behavour.

 

Anyone else finding this? Is there a way to get it to simply log off another user without requirement me to go for a hike 5 times a day to shut down the other seat? 

 

This is definitely not making this software friendly to use, in fact it's a constant struggle to use it at all the way it is working....

I am giving my first try to use an indexable drill as a drill and boring bar. This is the drill I am using http://www.mitsubishicarbide.net/mmus/enus/drilling/10000761/20079347. I don't see anything about max drill diameter. How much over do you think I can go.

 

Also I don't see a way to use a normal drill cycle to do this so the only way I can figure to do this in Mastercam is to draw a line at the diameter that I want to drill at, then use a finishing toolpath with no retracts to make it go strait in and strait out.

 

Any examples would be awesome.

In X9, I would go down to the level at the bottom right of the screen and right click it. then I'd select what entities I wanted to change the level of. I could also copy them to the new level. 

How do I do that with 2017?

If any one can help me out with mach sim i'd be grateful. The tutorial leaves quite a bit to be desired.

So, here's what I've got. I have my machine defined and moving. Parts always go where they're supposed to. My tool even offsets properly from the center of B axis. However, the tip of the tool is not going to where the path should be.

 I am new to mastercam and transition from X6 to  Mc 2017 . Can some one help me to find the old  finish 3D scallope and paralell toolpath . Some one show me to Right click on toolpath manager and add it on but I can't find it there , I see there  is 3D pocket and countour but not the scallope , Am I missing some thing ?

second question is  I had set a color for the 3D model but it keep changing every time I select it to do a toolpath , how do I stop it ?

Does anyone have any tricks to control which way the cut flows from , i.e. left  to right, right to left

 

I have a part that is symmetrical and has an open end transitioning to a slot. When cutting from the front I get flow from the open end to the slot end which produces good swarf management , but when I cut the same geo from the back I get flow from the slot end to the open end and this leaves a nasty island that wants to get sucked into the cutter and break it !

Hello guys! 

I have a question about coolant setup in toolpath parameters, there is 3 active coolant choices, but I need one more (M12 - external air for Okuma). I know the posibility to add custom options for coolant in General Machine Parameters table, but I want it to use value of coolant directly from my post procesor (which is set as in he photo). There is a possibility to make 4 choices of coolant setup or no?

Any thoughts?

I've got a part that resembles a hood scoop for a car. The sides have an undercut that varies from 1/2° to 1.5°. I tried to use a lollypop cutter in a surface blend toolpath, but it appears that path won't do an undercut. I'm forced by scheduling to program this for our 3-axis.

 

 

The yellow area is what I need to undercut. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to cut this might be? It's aluminum & the finished part is about 20" x 14" x 3"

I have Mastercam x9 for SolidWorks installed on several Windows 7 64 bit PC's.  I get the following error when I start the Mastercam application (on all our PC's) but if I click on the OK button on the error message box the program starts and works normally.  Here is the error message I am getting (all in the same error message screen):

 

An exception occurred while initializing module ‘ToolManager.Core’.

-          The exception message was: There is an error in the current database configuration.  It could not be loaded by the .NET framework.

Please see the error log for more details.  Contact your local Mastercam Reseller for further assistance.

-          The Assembly that the module was trying to be loaded from was ToolManager.Core, Version=17.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKey Token=null.

Check the InnerException property of the exception for more information.  If the exception occurred while creating an object in a DI container, you can exception.GetRootException() to help l;ocate the root cause of the problem.

InnerException: There is an error in the current database configuration.  It could not be loaded by the .NET framework.  Please see the error log for more details.  Contact your Mastercam Reseller for further assistance.

InnerException:  The DbProviderFactories section can only appear once per config file.

 

 

Any thoughts on what is causing this?  Windows and >NET are all the latest up to date versions (all Windows updates are successfully installed).

I would like it to be indexable.i use Harvey now but as nice as they are they don't give me the life of an
indexable gold coated insertmill.i have some but they are big diameter and I need to get in close to some walls.nine 9 makes a small one but its only a 60 deg included.

How do you drag a 2nd solid into 2017 so it 'merges' and does not

start a new file?

Hi,

 

On X7, is there a way to get cutter comp output if I use geometry for the centerline of the tool?  

 

What I do is use the contour toolpath to get stepovers and depths like I want, then I save the geometry from backplot, and redo my toolpaths cutting back and forth with no retracts to get rid of all the up and over moves, and keep the tool down.

Hi,

 

New to rotary axis, and rusty with mastercam.  I have x9 now and left off years back with x2.  See attached pictures.  Can I mill out those pockets on a rotary toolpath or do I have to create a regular 2D toolpath based on the line work that makes up the pocket.

It seems like if the last pass of a parallel surface is less than the stepover it simply stops short.

Is there a way to force it or adjust the stepover to respect the final pass?

Still stuck in X5.

opened up a part I was working on yesterday and went to verify to see how far I had got and this popped up

followed by

then this

 
clearing those and all seems ok until I open verify and run, all seems to look good until it hits a an op with control comp and looks as if it is using no comp at all!
changing it to computer comp looks to fix it, but never had this problem before!
any body come across this before???

I have some 7075-T6 half inch sheets two foot square I am holding close to free state and need to flatten within .001in. Looking for the best facemill and inserts for cutting it.

How does one specify which spindle a live tool should be on? There is a left/right spindle option for the turning tools but I see nothing for the live tools.
