X9 installation error

I have Mastercam 2017 installed- up and running. I wasn’t quite ready to uninstall X9 yet but the other day when I tried to open it I keep getting an error message (don’t remember the message now). After numerous attempts I gave up and decided to reinstall X9. Now when I try to install it I get this error message.

Setup.exe: Cannot load

C:\Users\Tech\AppData\Local\Temp\RarSFX0\support\resources\\DvdSetupRes.dll

I downloaded a new file from Mastercam and still keep getting this message. What is messed up on my end that it won’t install?

Convert to 5 Axis MC2017

All,

I have used the 'Convert to 5 Axis' toolpath quite a bit in previous versions.

In MC2017 it is not working correctly for me.

I can't post my file here, but I can describe it simply.

It is a dome shaped surface.

Normally I do a 2d radial surface toolpath, then use the 'Convert to 5 Axis' to add a fixed tilt value to the Z axis for a little extra clearance for the toolholder.

This method has always worked for me, and it is clean and simple.

Doing that same procedure in MC2017, it seems to be ignoring the tilt value and just stays vertical.

Backplot and Verify both show the tool staying vertical, and the posted code confirms all B0 values.

Is this a known issue, or am I just missing something in the parameters?

New User Frustrations

Hey community..I am a new user to Mastercam. I have been quoting, process designing, programming, setting up, running, inspecting and all around making very intricate parts for 23 years. I previously used Surfcam (14+ years)  and Pro E / Pro manufacture (past 8 years). So that is a little of my history...Since you all know Mastercam is really prevalent in the CNC world, I am hoping to get some help here as the new company I work for will not send me to the VAR for training.

Long story short, coming from Pro E and solids based programing where your toolpath creation options are limitless, I am finding Mastercam to be clunky and not very user friendly. I am able to create toolpaths but not exactly the way I want...So today, let me ask a question as to why it is so difficult to add a proper lead in lead out to a simple contour routine??

I have tried every setting on the lead in lead out page and can NOT get it to generate a simple arc on arc off...Likely it is something glaringly obvious that I am missing but I sure as hell can't find it....

Guess I am just getting out some early am frustration here....Until Cimquest opens up....

Hope everyone out in NC land is having a good day!

Entity Selection X9

Good Morning

New to X9 here. I am having an issue with selecting entities, X9 does not behave as i am accustomed to on previous versions.

Seems to default back to to window selection after every pick. Will not remain on single or chain as i have selected.

Is there a setting that i am overlooking?

repaired NCI getting worse and worse!

OK.

It's gotten to the point that EVERY single time I open a file, I get 4 to 5 "repaired NCIs".

It's always newly created operations, since the last save and repair cycle. Once I get "repaired NCI" once, I won't get it again on that op.

Once I'm finished programming, and I've done a few Save, open, save, open, save open, cycles, I'll get a clean file.

I just took a look at my logger, and noticed that every one of my operations has this error, every time I create one and save:

OP ID# 10: 10 - Contour (2D) - [WCS: EVO-TOP] - [Tplane: EVO-FCHAM]save_db(): multiple start of section nci moves!

Any insights? I can't help but think this may be contributing.

I know the "repaired NCI" aren't doing any damage, but it's SO MUCH extra effort to constantly be unlocking and renaming my ops. I'm a stickler for organized and clean files!

Hi,

i turn on "Quick verify" in Bacplot menu(red arrow in scr. shoot), and then the part is rotated about the x axis during backplot, let's try it Smile.gif.

Peck Drill output G) and G1... not a canned cycle

On my past versions of MasterCam, using the peck drill cycle, I had the option of putting in a peck value and then a subsequent peck value and by doing so output would be rapid and feed moves, not the canned cycle.

How do I get this to work on 2017? the Subsequent peck box is greyed out.

Thanks for your help.

VB Script to Post to Multiple Machines

Good Morning All,

When I make a change to a program I need to re-post it to up to 8 different machine types depending on the product line.

The typical routine in this shop is to got to the Machine Definition Manager, Pick the required Post-Processor from the drop-down list, click the green check, say yes to the "Replace group machine" prompt, click Post Selected Operations, Name the files (Naming convention is the same depending on machine), and posting.

Is there a good VB Script somewhere that I can pick apart and Frankenstein to make this process a little less tedious? If not, can someone point me in the direction of a good example line or two of code for picking the post processor and posting?

Thanks!

James

Lolipop path

First time for me with this. I have a tube with a slot going thru one side, need to mill a radius between the slot wall and the I.D. The solid is sound. I defined a lollipop tool and am trying to cut it with a blend path. MC rejects the lollipop and generates a path with a spherical tool. I am not getting the path I need. What am I missing?

Thoughts on slotting operation in steel

Don't do many odd jobs but trying to help a guy.  He needs some 9/16" wide thru slots cut in some 2" round bars.  Because this is a small one time job, I was going to reach for a smaller cutter and such but I still need to reach 2".  I would also like to minimize the corner rad so a smaller tool is preferred.

Thoughts on the tool selection and path for this?  I would rather not flip the part over but if I do, I am trying to think of an easy way to index the bar for this.  Obviously using a 4th would be best but don't have one with a chuck.  Just wanna throw in a vise and get it done.

Home / Ref. Points Not consistently posting

Am I the only one that has been having this problem?

For no reason that I can figure out, the home / ref. points I input inside the toolpath parameters do not show up consistently when I post. This is a problem because if I use them, it is to avoid a crash.

Inventor assembly (.iam) not showing all components

What could possibly cause an incomplete Inventor assembly when opening the .iam file in MC? Previously when I opened the assembly, all components came in. After the designer made a change to one of the components, now only a single part comes in. Everything opens fine in Inventor. It doesn't appear as though the assembly had components blanked or anything like that when it was saved. Other assembly files from Inventor open fine. It's not a version issue as neither software has been updated. The designer says he didn't do anything different.

What are some things that could cause this behavior?

Changing WCS in common parameters

I have 20 operations and I'd like to change the WCS on every operation. Every operation has a different tool plane.

Can I use edit common parameters to change the WCS on all 20 operations without changing the Tplane, or Cplanes?

If I select all operations, and try to change only the WCS, then it also changes all the Tplanes & Cplanes to a common plane.

any ideas on this?

I have a very large shaft that I have to machine in place.
it is on a huge machine that is damaged somewhere so it cannot be rotated under its own power and at this time cannot be disassembled either.the shaft is about 25 to 30 ft long.
there is a very precision ground polygon on the end of the shaft ,after that the shaft steps up around an inch and is round.the polygon is around 6 inches in dia at its base circle.
I have to machine an undercut 1/8 wide and about 1/8 deep where the polygon meets the straight part at the shoulder.it also has to follow the polygon shape.
I cant drag this monster to a horizontal cnc.
any ideas at all on how to machine (or grind) this thing in place?
even if I had to build some type of machine to clamp on the end and rotate it by hand.

mastercam axis limits?

hi wondering if there is any way to set the axis travel limits , so there is some type of warning ? I set the travel limits in the machine definition for X and Y  , and then created a tool path that went past those set,  and there was nothing ?   the only one I know of is in machine simulation ?

Program wire to stop so a magnet can be inserted

Using Mastercam 2017, could someone do a screen shot showing the proper way to program a stop so a magnet can be put on the part to prevent a punch from dropping on the lower wire guide. We have a Sodick wire machine if  it matters. Thanks in advance.

it stopps because its stuck on a very large g02 or 3 with a gigantic radius that the machine I guess cant handle.
its one of the filter settings and ive left it at the mc preset which is very high.
anyone know what the largest programmable radius is on a haas?

TOOLCHANGER HELP!

We have a Dahlih Vert. CNC with a Fanuc O-M control.
The toolnumbers are out of sync with the machine. When I call T13 the carousel goes to T12 and thinks this is the correct tool. I tried reading the manual but it asks me for an address in the paremeters page and I don't know what the heck it wants. I'm really stuck, so any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
